John Kennedy Mind Power Deck

Effect: you show your 4 spectators a deck of cards. They each memorize a different card. You than can name each card thought of. This is a very wonderful and closely guarded trick/secret in magic.


Secret: This deck looks pretty normal if you just spread it normally pretty quickly and smoothly. But if you notice, there is a pattern going.

The pattern goes as follows: starting from the very top: Queen of Diamonds, 9 of Spades, 8 of Hearts, King of Clubs, and finally the 2 of Diamonds. These cards repeat over and over again for 8 times in a row. On the very front of the deck, you will find just 4 random cards this does not matter because they will not see these cards. They are just there to make it a 52-card deck.


Performance: take the cards out of the box face up. Spread them quickly to show they are all different. They should not suspect a thing. Next, spread them toward them so they can see the cards. Tell each of them to memorize one card they see once you spread the cards. Make sure not to show the last 4 cards so they don’t memorize one of them. Also tell them not to memorize the card on the face of the deck. Make sure they memorize one they actually see in the deck or it will not work. Once they have all memorized a card, you will ask a few questions. The first question you ask is: How many of you have a red card? About 2 or 3 of them will raise their hand. It does not matter how many people have red cards though. If 3 people have a red card you then say, “ I have a feeling 2 of you have a diamonds.” You will usually be right because there are more diamonds than hearts in here. If one or two of those people don’t have a diamond, they must have a heart. The only heart though is the 8 of hearts, so you can instantly name their card. Now for the people who have hearts or who didn’t raise their hand because they have black, you then ask them to raise their hand if they have a really high card. If one of the ones who had a diamond raises their hand, then that automatically means that you can name their card to them, which is definitely the Queen of Diamonds. If one of the other people, who had a diamond, didn’t raise their hand, you can instantly name their card, the 2 of diamonds. If there is still someone left, they either have the 9 of spades or the 3 of clubs. You ask them is your card a club? If they say yes, then it is the 3 of clubs. If they say no, then it is the 9 of spades.

Tips: sometimes 2 people will have the same card. That is okay. You should be able to tell though because of the questions. Just say, I think both of you have the same card. Then name it.
