So I went to Disneyland the other day, [I live in LA, I go all of the time] and Houdini magic shop has a booth there and I saw a young boy opening "Hover Card" and being totally confused at the wad of invisible thread.....
So that got me all nostalgic, and I wondered, what was the first magic trick that you got, was it a gift? Did a parent or friend encourage you? Support you?
What was it? Do you still do it?
My first crap magic trick was the plastic nails through the coin/box from Tenyo. The nails go down int the box and push the coin up on its side.
I also had a nail through a plastic window/card effect.
Both plastic, both with nails....hmmmm

Mental Photography, then i believe i bought a thumb tip... the rough/smooth of the deck is dead and i haven't tried re-roughing it (i know how... chapstick... i did it with my brainwave deck... i'm just too lazy)

chapstick, really? so could i do that to an old invisible deck? do you leave it moist or let it dry? please elaborate. thanks!

Mine was either a svengali deck or one of those marvins magic kits.
By the way the chapstick thing is cool if it works

yeah, i suggest you try it out with an old deck, do your own invisible deck, you take some, spread it out in the whole card and let it dry a bit, say 5 min, then put the piared card which also must have chapstick in it, and itīll stick, you will have to move them a bit so the chapstick wonīt act as glue just as a rougher... only problem is you CANNOT hand out the card, cuz if you do, the spec will feel a strange substance in their fingers, try it out, no more lacquer for old invisible decks (though Lacquer is better than chapstick, i just did it cuz of Dai Vernon's way of his invisible deck, he did it with wax...)

Wow, you really are a noob lol. I'm joking but a lot of people seem to have got decent tricks, it's not fair, for the first 2-3 years of my magic life i had to make do with shite. You can say what you like about ellusionist DVDs but they do seem to bring decent magic to the masses...

I guy at a magic shop sold me a thumb tip and a DVD on sponge balls. I was hooked right away by the reactions I got. I was so nervous because I didn;t think anyone would fall for it but they did.
first thing i got was a klutz magic book, about 10 years ago. came with a huge thumb tip for my age (and i hate them ever since) and some latex for coin penetrations.

My first trick would probably be a stripper/force deck few years back. But I don't use trick decks anymore, impromtu tricks are for me. But my frist dvd would be CC1 which helped me start doing magic.

I can't really remember my first magic trick, like I got those kid sets when I was like 4 and stuff, but I think the first trick I bought when I was hooked on magic was the coin bite....The one with the elastic band thingy, but before that I still learnt quite a few card tricks.

My first set was a gift that I asked for. It's those kiddie magic sets. Aside from that, it's an IT based trick. Don't ask what it was exactly...

my first ticks i bought in like the first grade. lol. when the book fair comes to town. and you can order off of those little scholastic newspaper things. i was always interested in doing things other people thought was impossible. so naturally i took an interest in magic. lol. the first trick i bought that everyone i know loves and begs me to do it every time they see me is stigmata by wayne houchin. i love the trick and made about 100 bucks on that trick alone yesterday. i work in a restaurant as a server but i always do magic for my table.. its funny cause some people come in JUST to see me do tricks. lol. but the ole' stigmata trick has been by my side for a while too. i don't know why it is soo hated in this forum. everytime i do it, it always leaves them breathless.
