I want to start doing the classic force. Does anyone have any advice on doing the classic force? Obviously, I should choose my spectator carefully, but do you guys get good success from the classic force?

well, pratice your timing, the only way to do that is to actually TRY it. The more you try it the more u'll get your timing down. ALSO always have an out for when they dont pick the "force" card, always have a backup plan.

what you need is a back up trick where they can pick any card, just incase they dont pick the card you are trying to force them to

With practice it will always work. I don't remember the last time I failed it. But you should always have some sort of trick to back you up just in in case they miss the card.

It's a timing thing and you really need to practice to get it down right.

If you keep the force card somewhere in the upper 1/3rd or middle, as you invite the spec to pick a card, already start going thru the cards. Slow down a bit as you approach. Time it so that just as they're ready to pick, you're down to the last 5 cards or so. The idea is YOU select the card for them by pushing the card to them at just the right moment so that their finger(s) hit the force card.

If you fail, you can use Ouellet's move, although his requires a pinky break underneath the card, and not over it as is the norm. Here's how it goes:

If you're too early, just outjog the selected card, close the spread, still keeping the break, with your non-deck hand, flush the outjogged card to the deck then lift off at the break simultaneously. The spec will think you lifted at the outjogged card, but in reality, you just lifted off the force card.

If you're too late, do the same thing, actually. Just be careful since sometimes, you might tend to lift off at the outjogged card instead.

Of course, if you're TOO far off, it might get a bit obvious, but I haven't been caught with it so far.

If that still fails, time to switch to a different trick. :D

Well dont tell them to pick a card before you start going through because they might pick to early... Finish saying when just about at the card...and slow down when at card and make it stick out a little bit more...

bad advice....

if you do it right it looks like your just spreading the cards.....

the only real way to practice is to do it all the time....just always do it....whenever you need a card selected....even when the card could by freely selected....just go ahead and try to force one, any one, you dont even need to know what it is. just practice the force.

that way it really doesn't matter if you hit it or not....only you will know, and you get the hang of the timing.....

but what ever you do...don't get in the habbit of slowing down or trying to make it stick out farther....those are just bad habits you will have to eliminate later.....if your gonna do it...then do it right from the start.

i totally agree with this, there are so many times i perposfully spread a card slightly more than another just so my specs pick it, i dont know what it is mind u i just do it for the practice and i'd say a good 80% of the time it works

also practice with the timein as to when u actually bring the cards up to their hand, u want it so that as they stick theiur finger out the card u want to force is pretty much right below it and u just push the deck up to touch their finger

you can practice the timing at home....just stand in front of the wall and start the spread....and bring the spread up to touch the wall just as the card comes....
