Anyone know the different ways to do the hidden spike under cups trick? I saw this performed at a act and thought the magician was using a ring but he removed the ring and had no bracelet on. He then proceeded to turn around and let the volunteer move the cups around and do what ever she wanted to with them and he still performed the trick successfully without stabbing himself lol. Please let me know how he did this? Thanks.

Alot of practice. I know a few people who perform this with sharp knives and styrofoam cups on a lazy Susan. I know of one person who stabbed there hand right thru the blade on accident. Don't play with the dangerous things.
You could hurt you self very badly.
Stick with card tricks

lol. well i would at least like to know how they are done. Yeah I have seen the videos where people hurt themselves so people say it is a guessing game to a point and some say not so.

I saw a video here on LMT where the guy used the cups "serial number" to know exactly where the spike was. But if someone switch the cups when you are not looking you'll hurt yourself. DO NOT TRY THAT.
;D

Yeah, I heard about using the number on the cup. A magician friend of mine actually said there are many ways to do it. I guess you can always have a audience member give you some sort of sign as to where the cup is. There have to be other ways though.

there are really only 4 ways, one is with an assistant signalin u, 2 is marked cups, 3 is marked cards and the final way is a pk ring or bracelet,

it depends on the presentation. sometimes its blocks of wood and other times its coasters or playin cards. if it doesnt use cards then u can obviously rule out marked cards lol and it will b one of the other 3 methods

but i think he gave the lady the spike and she put it in the holders then mixed them up while his back was turned. so a marked would not do any good

There are many many ways in doing it, to add on to all the possible methods that have been listed, there's also an hightech method, where each of the base have electronics and if the spike is put in it , it will signal the magician. There are a few signaling method, the magician could be signal visually using LED's signal on the receiver in the magician's pocket, or more descretely via vibration on different parts to signal the magician. The receiver could also be held by an assistant which then use body language to signal the magician. I am not joking here, this hightech electronic version really exist if you know where to get it, but it doesn't come cheap.

guys i eat fire, swallow swords, hammer nails into my head. And I wouldn't do this. It's too dangerous. Your adding more danger in letting some one mix them up. If I won't try this, even knowing the secret, you guys should take the advice and let it be.

True. Even with the PK version, there's nothing stopping them putting something under another cup like a pencil or pen (that isn't magnetic) they happen to have on them
