This tricks is quite basic and I remember a while back someone asking how
it was done. I will not take credit for this reveal as I saw it on youtube.

Penn & Teller each get a spectator to sign a Bullet head on opposite sides of
the audience once the audience member has signed the bullet head, with a
little misdirection both Penn & Teller switch the bullets for another bullet in
their pocket. The audience believes that these are the same bullets.

Penn & Teller continue to get the audience members to draw a picture on the
shell of the bullets, both draw smiley face. Now the begin to walk to the
back of the stage Holding up the Second Bullet, they reach into their pockets
and place the first bullet on a glass table at the back ( which is slightly
shadowed).

This allows the Assistants Backstage to remove the heads from the bullets,
rough them up a bit and roll them in Gun Powder. Penn & Teller walk to the
back and put on a Bullet Proof Vest which is where the Assistants have
hidden the first bullet head. As the vest goes over their head they each
place it in their mouths.

The Second Bullet is loaded with a paper mache bullet head (the Smiley face
one) which is then fired and breaks the glass between them but does not
injure them. They then fake that they caught the Bullet head between their
teeth and show it to the Audience.

that doesnt sound anything like the show i saw.....

.......as you described it they both got shot.....that isn't even close.

in the show i saw there was only one bullet.... and teller shot penn.....

you discription doesnt jive with the video of the performance......

.................................................. ..

i just love it when people say "it's really very simple".......then they describe something that is just plain wrong.

The Trick has Two Different performances.
One is More of a Double Bullet Catch.

One is performed when they both shoot a Bullet at each other and The other
is when Teller Shoots Penn. Sorry For The Misconception.

This is the Video I saw:

yeah the one i have seen has been where they shoot each other, but to have them actually shoot each other is both dangerous and incredibly stupid, even blank can kill especially from a magnum.

i rememebr them doin research when derren brown was doin his russian roulette trick even from 6-8 feet the bullet would still kill u so why take the risk, even tho they are wearin bullet proof vests it takes just the tiniest bit of interfearance to nock the bullets of track and hit them where they are not protected, for someon like penn and teller it just wouldnt b worth the risk.

i would say the bullets never get shot out and they use the standard break away glass that pretty much every bullet catch performer would use

Nah.. i believe there is a definite shot from the gun. whether it is a paper
mache bullet or a wax bullet( that dissapates as soon as it leaves the gun),
I'm not sure. Another thing may be the fact that they are using a modified air
gun.
