Can anyone do a double lift purely from the feel of two cards? I mean, not using a packet push off or anything. You have 50 piles of new cards in front of you and you can cut two cards as one every time using only the thumb and finger of the same hand. How much training would this require?

Well I was practising some sleight's when I looked up as I was doing a double lift and still managed to pull it off. So I tried it again and realised it is'nt really that hard.

to b honest it doesnt take a lot of skill, i usually do a very very quick and short thumb/finger count to make sure i do have 2 cards, failing that a slight push off is more natural anyway.
have u ever watched people deal cards, even if they are dealin just a single card, they will push it over first then flip it over or drag it off. if u want ur doubles to look natural they need to look like how u normal take off one card. so if u nromally just reach over lift off one card straight up then ur doubles need to look like that. but i personally dont know anyone that does that. everyone i know will push the card over slightly so they can grip it to turn it over.
so thats how i do my doubles, they look more natural that way.
so i slightly thumb over 2 cards, and in the action of turnin the top card over i square them both together and lfip then as 1

Eh I believe Espen showed me a dl on blogtv. Looked like he was dealing but it was a double. Maybe I just saw it wrong :P
Anyways push-off dl I think is natural too even though the other magician in my grade denies it. Really you just pressure with your thumb and push off but I just can't do it lol. It's really used for packet tricks I think.. All I do is bevel the deck reach in with my thumb and riffle 2 cards if I need a dl...
And really from experience and what Traum has said it's kinda pointless to do dl's completely natural like you're dealing. The specs couldn't care less... As long as it's smooth and looks "realistic"

What I usually do for an average double flip is exactly what tram said..
You have to make it look like your peeling off 1 card.
I usually take 1 card face down in my right hand. (say I was doing Blueprint) A lot of double lifts involved. But to get the first double lift going, i take 1 card and hold it face and I slightly move the top card of the deck over to catch a pinky break. And Shoot the card over to the top of the deck, and easily peel off a double lift. And from their it's all down hill XD

I use a modified Strike Double. There's a trick to help you get doubles easier, but in time, I learned how to do it by feel anyway. At least, I can instantly tell if I got the double or not. If not, it's not too hard to adjust and try again. I learned this maybe a month or so of practicing the Strike Double. I didn't even mean to since I was a huge skeptic of me being able to do it by feel.
Pushing off a double like Blaine does still drives me nuts to this day though. I just can't do it despite the practice.

yeah thats kind of what i was tryin to get at
lol
no one can say a block push off double is better than an thumb break double if u dont normaly block push off cards, i mean as long as it looks realistically like ur just liftin up a single card it really doesnt matter to spectators how u do ur double lifts,
i've really got into lenart greens windmill wich is a great move to get into a double or triple lift situation while in the process of showin the top card and squarein it up ur actually able to position the shown card 2nd or 3rd from top and as u square it ur given the posability to push it in and get a break under it. for all those that have not seen it or heard of it i sugest u check it out, it does look natural but is very deceptive, took me a few hours to get it really smooth and looks so good, i surprise my self sometimes lol
