I'm a righty and hold the deck in left hand and I hold the deck in right for overhand
Is it worth it to learn how to deal and shit while holding the deck in my right hand instead?
I guess it would help with charlier show cases but besides that is there any other real reason?

Interesting question. My knee jerk reaction was YES, but I've sat down and thought about it some more. My advice here would be when it comes sleight of hand with "objects" (meaning coins, sponge balls, etc) you should be able to palm equally well using both hands. I used to practice classic palming coins while typing at the keyboard.
When it comes to cards, that's a different story in my mind. I would say that you DO NOT need to become equally fluent with both hands. Most people hold a deck of cards in one hand and deal with the other and never switch. It's natural. If you always hold the cards consistently in the left, deal and shift with your right, then it won't be an issue. The only exception to that rule would probably be classic palming a card. Bottom palming would go to your left hand while top palming would go to your right.
Hope that helps.
To comment on the ambidextrous issue. I was ambidextrous as a child. I could write equally well (same handwriting) with both my right and left hands. Unfortunately this drove my first grade teacher nuts and they forced me choose my right hand. I'm really pissed about it do this day. (sigh)

personally i dont think it matters either. i'm right handed but i do all my sleights with my left hand, thats how i've learnt......i've had to adapt a few sleights so that i can actually pull them off with my left hand but most of the time card sleigths are designed to be able to be done with any hand so it doesnt really matter, as longas u can palm with both hands its fine

My favorite form of magic is coin magic. When I practice I practice withboth hands.Coin magic is different though. Sometimes you need to be able to do the same move in either hand. With cards though its not that important. Its not really going to make a difference, as far as the appearance of your perfomance. You should still learn though for your own benefit. If the need ever arises where you need to perform a move in the opposite hand you'll be stuck trying to figure out what to do. It can happen.
