Hi Guys! What we've all been waiting for, and I'd Just thought I'd start a proper thread about the new Yigal Mesika 'Tarantula' that'll go on sale very soon :D
I've seen the video preview and official trailer for it and i've gotta say, I'm absolutely astounded. It looks awesome, and after seeing it before I didn't take much notice of it for some reason. I've looked at it again recently, and I'm totally blown away at Yigal's handling of the Tarantula. It seems to me that this is one whole new era that Yigal's brought and it's gonna be exciting :)
Here's the official trailer:
<object width="480" height="295"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/4sctqCQksjY&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/4sctqCQksjY&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="295"></embed></object>

Spider pen?
Just a suggestion.

It could be, but a much MUCH more upgraded version and some new tweaks here and there. Yigal says that he's innovated a few new features in this one, so I think it differs a bit from a spider pen.
So is it definitely some sort of Invisible Thread Reel?

No, it's mexican black magic  jk.... but yeah It's a real, unless someone else has something that contradicts that.

lol @ mexican black magic. Ahhh okay then. But one thing i don't get. How is he running his finger over the ring all the way around if it's a reel?
A.C.E
02-18-2009, 11:32 PM
Dunno, and from the shot it's at the finger might not be going completely above the thread, it just looks like it cause it gives you a side shot, so that's my guess
lmaoatyou
02-19-2009, 12:12 AM
Yeah true. But maybe he is running his finger all the way round, which is why he probably said that there are some new features...?

its definitly some thought of reel, probaly spider pen. random name trantula though? :D btw i was browsing on magic cafe and someone said it is going to be release after the blackpool convention. not long then:)

Ahhh right okay then. So it's a reel, definitely? But that still doesn't answer my question as to how he's running his finger all the way round. A.C.E suggested it could have been the camera angle but what if it isn't?
I've updated some release info in the first post.

its obviosuly a reel, and he doesnt move is finger all the way around, u can clearly see he does it at an agle. meanging he is just goin around the ring but not touchin the thread that is hangin straight down
it must be some sort of advancement form the spider pen, hence the name tarantual for a start. lol
i really like the look of it tho, especially the part that the ring just falls form the air to land on a spectators finger.
looks very impessive

im browsing magic cafe and one guy said " i think those of you who like the spider pen or other ITRs will really like this alternitive. im definitly stumped now :)

02-19-2009, 11:56 AM
actually, having looked at it a bit more i think he doesn't move his finger all the way round but his placement is very good.. a clear advancement from the spider pen
and yeah arsenal i've just been reading the posts on the magic cafe as well, and it's got me wondering lol - "alternative"
I think Morgan Stebler use the same finger move in Spun...

If it is not very expensive then i will probably get it if it is a factory made gimmick that you can't make yourself.

well its goin to be an upgrade to the spider pen, u wont b able to make it
arsenal09
02-19-2009, 01:44 PM
ill buy it if its cheap:) hopeully the thread will be invisible to the human eye. the thread will have to be quite strong to carry the ring though
traumatised-magic
02-19-2009, 02:44 PM
i cant see it bein all that cheap to b honest, i mean the spider pen was quite expensive when it first came out...as far as i know its still pretty expensive compared to most ITR.
i would say the thread used will b kevlar, its the strongest thread u can buy and is pretty invisible....its also more than likely why he is wearin a black shirt to try and hide it more....altho most people prefer to wear busy pattern shirts rather than just black, i've never really seen the poit of that to b honest, i've never had problems with the thread bein seen against a nromal black shirt.....
lmaoatyou
02-19-2009, 03:56 PM
Yeah I think it's a device you can't make yourself, and it being an upgraded version of the spider pen i think you'll probably get what you pay for.
Anyway, i hope the thread is going to be of a good quality in terms of light and distance; the thread used for loops is ideal, and i think most of us who use loops will probably be used to working around using that type of thread. But if it's a slightly different thread i hope it's easier to work around in terms of invisibility and strength. Kevlar thread will be best like traum says, but if this uses a whole new thread then i'm impressed.
I hope it's relatively cheap enough so it's in my budget.. but if it's a bit higher than i expected then i'm probably gonna save up for this beast
arsenal09
02-19-2009, 04:14 PM
i think it will be like the spider pen but in a diffrent form a.c.a glasses:D. i personaly dont think you will be able to make it because simply the spider ppen is nearly impossible to make:(

its a classic move when dealin with thread ur finger does go over the object enough to convince spectators there is nothin holding it up but not enough for u to actually interfear with the thread

I saw him do this live in Venice Beach, LA about 6 weeks ago, and I have been trying to figure out the ring effect ever since. The real ( or reel:) ) kicker for me was the ring was spinning, during the whole routine. Yes, an ITR can can accomplish the hovering ring but not on the horizontal plane as far as I can find out.
On this video I did notice he used the same ring as he did when I saw him do it - originally I thought the ring was gaffed and the outside actually spins, allowing dual anchors on the inner ring but the name tarantula makes me suspect it is multiple anchors on a rings wound like the elastic band on an ITR - doesnt explain the ring onto finger though, and I did see him do that on his own and a spectator's finder, so that is not camera trickery to enhance sales. Cant wait till it become available, its the one thing on my thread repertoire I just can't figure out, and its driving me nuts !

the hookup is the same as spun by morgan strebler
i float a ring just like this.....the wax ball with the thread is attached to the inside of the ring......
the spinning momentum keeps it horizontal......

me too.....not sure how he gets rid of the hook up.....
the only thing that bothers me is that you wont be doing it with a barrowed ring......it would have to be a really large ring to just fall all the way on like that.....you can see in the vid how big it is....
so i guess it falls on and then he removes it from their finger....gets rid of the hookup and maybe hands it out.....
but its definately not the spectators ring....

Wow.. actually - I dunno why i'm saying this but i've got a feeling that it disconnects just before it falls onto the spectator's finger. I'm not sure why but i think it's just the way it falls down, like a thread's being retracted and then there's nothing supporting it so it falls due to gravity alone. Because if it still had a thread attached when it lands on the spectator's finger there's a VERY big risk and a HIGHLY likely that they might turn away to show other people or walk away a few yards to show somebody.. If that's the case then that's your deviced buggered up..
I hope, just like a lot of the people on this thread, that there is something verrry special to the Tarantula, with a slight more magic like we're discussing (about the detachment before the drop)... Damn i want this so bad..

just because it's simple, doesn't mean that it wont take lots of practice and work to make it look real....
you want it to look like its floating and not hanging from a string.
in theory and method its easy.....but it still takes long hours of practice to really fool people with it.

Nooo, you misunderstood me. I meant simple as in simpler in terms of other ITRs and their handling. As in simpler setups, simpler placements and simpler handling sort of thing.
But yeah, i agree with you about the effect looking real. But simple or not simple i'm gonna practice until i get it right anyway hehe.

Not that expensive i thought that it would be $150 but i can be shore that it has good quality because Mesika always has quality items.I think that this is just a upgraded spider pen (Like can hold more thread, faster, quieter) with a new look.
Quote from Tanner's Magic Shop: "The Tarantula uses the same spider pen spooler thread and a common button cell battery.
If you use the spider pen, loops, Invisible thread or ITR then you will use and love the Tarantula. "
lmaoatyou
02-22-2009, 11:08 AM
Yeah, they're right about that one. I use loops a lot and like tricks related to them; levitations, etc.. That's why the Tarantula seems so appealing to a lot of people here - because it's a significant step-up from other ITRs there are on the market these days. The fact that it's from Mesika is even better, because he trys his best to find the best quality thread for these products in terms of invisibility and strength.

lmaoatyou
02-22-2009, 07:06 PM
Yeah I don't use ITRs very often either. But the refills, and this is a guess btw (an educated guess), won't be that expensive because the actual product may be over the budget of a few people. If the system works like the Ultrasmoke (expensive product, expensive refills) then i'm gonna hang myself.

well if its anythin like other reels then u wont have to refil it all that much unless ur really bad with it and keep snappin it...i've had my ITR for about 3-4 years and i've actually only refilled it maybe 1 or 2 times, its the elastic that gets worn and breaks more often than the thread...at least it does for me, i've replaced the elastic so many times lol
but that is the great advantage of the spider pen....its an electronic winder so i can only assume the tarantula is the same...i mean why go backwards with technology. so no wearing of the elastic it'll prob just the battteries need changein

Not that i didn't like the materials at all. There were some good stuffs out of all the DVDs. Some seems just old effects with different presentation and handling, and some doesn't have the 'wow' factor and impact, and some are not practical for occasions. But out of them, there are some gems as well, maybe one or 2 from each dvd. Everyone probably has different opinion, as you'll notice on the magiccafe that some loves all of them, maybe cos $300 is a lot, and they want to believe they got good stuffs. But i am more realistic and for $300 i say it's not total value for money. Not supergrand stuffs. I would say like investing in sets of some WGM dvd collection would give you more value. Nothing against PH, I like him and some of his magic, but just my opinion of the TA sets. They did great marketing of the TA sets, hence there were lots of hype and expectation from it.
Definitely looking forward to this item to come in on March 1st.
The spider pen was good. This one looks amazing!

I have a couple of questions:
For those who have seen Tarantula, is there something special about the reels or are we just guessing here based on the spider pen? My existing ITR I can replace the thread on, and at 5:00 for 300 ft of Vectran, I am unlikely to ever need to buy thread again.
My second question, is do you have to pay tax when importing into the UK? I only have to pay state tax if the company I am ordering from is also in California like me. Do you have to pay the VAT difference? Its still probably cheaper buying from the US though, as my experience is you pay a dollar for something here, you pay a pound for the same thing in the UK, so gonna cost you around fifty pounds - well maybe with shipping its evens. Maybe i'll pack a suitcase full of Tarants and flog em off cheap when I am in the UK in August ;)

yeah thats usually right, if its a dollar over in the states the same product is usually a pound over here in the uk...but when u consider the exchange rate that means buyin from the states is a lot cheaper....i'm not 100% on the rate at the moment but it used to be 2 dollars to the pound so buyin from the states was basically like gettin it for half price
i'm quite lookin forward to this, i use my regular ITR quite a lot and this seems like the perfect upgrade for me to get

When you buy something from US and import it into the UK, you do get TAX by the customs, but it depends on a few factors... firstly on your luck! and depends on the value of the product. I can't remember the exact value, but if it is over certain amount of declared value, the customs will pay attention to your parcel and there's high possibility and most likely you get tax. But sometimes you are lucky and they will let it pass. If it is low value items usually they just let it pass and save all the paperwork. If you are buying from a particular dealer in the US, email/call them to ask if they could mark the stuffs at xx amount. Some of them are fine with that and the bigger companies usually are not ok with that as they need to declare the value according to law.
And this usually is about the same case in other countries that i have been to and have tried ordering from US. Usually each country have a certain limit before they will consider it for tax. Some countries law state that all items being imported will be tax, but it's upto the customs officer too as they don't want too much paper work and will let some personal stuffs go thru if it's low value. And in some scary cases, some countries tax you 100%.
Ask the dealer to mark parcel as 'gift' and undervalue it.

for some of the effects you need to anchor the IT to someplace (e.g. wall), so you'll do a magical gesture like spiderman, your index finger curl in and presses the middle of your palm, and some IT shoots out with some sticky wax and it sticks to anywhere of your liking :P LOL....
then some drunk and unsuspecting jerk walk pass and gets tangled in the IT and screw up your trick :)

for some of the effects you need to anchor the IT to someplace (e.g. wall), so you'll do a magical gesture like spiderman, your index finger curl in and presses the middle of your palm, and some IT shoots out with some sticky wax and it sticks to anywhere of your liking :P LOL....
then some drunk and unsuspecting jerk walk pass and gets tangled in the IT and screw up your trick
Lmao...
There is a topic on this trick.

You know I looked at the vid again, and it looks like Venice beach, where I saw him do this routine. The camera crew who were there got in real close to what he was doing, and so did I about 3 feet. Let me repeat myself, it was impressive, really impressive - I cant wait to get my unit, more so because seeing it live I know there is no camera cry (video enhanced disappointment) to come and cause try as I might I cant get anywhere close to the manipulation. I saw him do haunted deck and the glasses flip, the deck was with his loops, and the glasses he wrapped thread around one arm, standard stuff if you know what you are looking for, but jaw droppers for the crowd. Still a draw dropper for me was the ring - I know some people have a routine for spinning ring, but I still have not seen anything as impressive as Yigals.
Has anyone else ordered one for release date as it will be good to regroup and compare notes?
BTW anyone use the spider pen and gotten good with it? How does it compare with what's in the promo video?
How much better are the electric units in terms of what you can do with them against the elastic units i use?

i know because i read the add....i didnt just watch the video, and start asking questions.
here is the add from hank lee's magic factory....
Tarantula
You’re in a normal setting: A coffee shop; A classroom; Even a party. You borrow a friend’s ring and hold it very fairly – nothing to hide. Suddenly, you give the ring a gentle horizontal spin and slowly move your hands away. The ring is now floating. Imagine that it continues to spin, without you touching it! The ring hovers up and down above your hand, from one hand to another, and slowly lands on your own finger! Instantly repeat it, and end up with the ring floating onto the spectator’s own finger! Sounds impossible? But, believe it or not, it is very easy to master, thank to the Tarantula! This levitation has it all. It’s fun, mysterious, edgy, and packs a strong emotional impact.
The Tarantula is a unique gimmick that has shattered the conventional wisdom of what reels look like and accomplish. This stealth utility device allows you to easily master levitation and animation. You can fearlessly perform completely surrounded with the Tarantula, and the preparation only takes a second. Literally, you have the power at your fingertips, and can show your hands empty at any time. The Tarantula allows you to perform countless effects that have never been seen or done before. The Tarantula comes with an explanation DVD, and everything you need to get started right away.
Every detail of the Tarantula Motorized Invisible Thread Reel is taught step-by-step.
You will learn new, incredible effects, including: Hovering, New Haunted Pack, Magnetic Money, Magic Pen and Floating Dollar Bill.
The Tarantula uses the Spider Pen Thread Spool and a common button cell battery. It is designed not to tangle, easy to fix and replace the thread spool and battery, it is virtually invisible and you can do some extraordinary levitating or floating of objects with it.
If you use the Spider Pen, Loops, Invisible Thread or ITR then you will use and love the Tarantula.
Available for shipment in early March. Pre-order now and we’ll pay the shipping anywhere in the US and ½ the Air Post everywhere else!

Hehe, it's okay mate
It's just i was confused about this. I've also read the same advert as you did, many times. But i've also read E's add. And they say:
The system is so invisible, it works inches from someone's face.
That's what i'm confused about, because they say it like the threads completely different and it's a whole new thread that really is invisible..
So what's the thread of the spider pen like? I've never used the spider pen. How good is its invisibility?

if your floating a ring using this method the thread is in motion all the time because of the way it rides the outside of the ring....
spun by morgan strebler is the same way,,,you can float the coin inches in front of the spectator face and you cant see the thread.
because its not hanging straight down, it's rideing the outside edge of the coin.

aaahhh i seee.. So obviously your gonna need to attach the thread to the ring with some wax or something? I haven't got that much XP with ITRs
traumatised-magic
03-07-2009, 01:39 PM
yes u need to attach it to the ring in some way...weather it be wax or actually tiein it to the ring....usein ur own ring tiein it in place maybe an idea but then it becomes less examinable. but then tryin to hide the wax enough so it isnt noticable when spinning causes a problem too
lmaoatyou
03-07-2009, 02:33 PM
ahhh damn. so you need to stick the end of the thread with wax to the wall as well i suppose?
Because if you do i don't see how the hell you do it descretely; walking up to a wall and touching it for no reason seems odd lol.

of course not the other end is inside the reel......basically ur main anchor point is the reel that u keep hidden on ur shirt somewhere....the spider pen was designed to look like a pen so could be put inside ur shirt pocket for example, the other end that u pull out is what u attach to the ring or what ever u intend on movin/floating...then when ur done u release the wax from the object and the thread goes back inside the reel out the way
lmaoatyou
03-07-2009, 07:39 PM
ooo okay im startin to understand now. but then how do you make things float? if the only thread is coming from the pen to the object (on the table for example), then how can you make things rise and fall? because won't it go straight to the pen in your pocket?

u make things float by hangin the thread over ur hands.....u control everythin by movin ur hands, just like u would if u only had a single piece of thread....in most cases the thread goes from behind the ear or the shirt collar and hangs down, then u attach the otehr end to the object u wish to float and u use ur hands to make it move same with any type of reel only instead of havein it attached to ur self in some way the thread is on a spool that can unwind and wind in thread so u have a large amount and is set up as soon as u put it on...no need to be fumbling about and no worry of breakin the thread between performances

depends, u could start out with regular IT if u havent tried handling one of those before. the ITR may require a little more timing, and a little more experience. which means, yes, u'll need to practice. but eh, i'd get it if i havent touched an ITR before. i mean, none of them r cheap anyways, u have no alternatives to learn the ITR

actually its pretty easy to stick a ball of wax to a wall or what ever and then move three or four feet away...
you can do the hook up and then perform a few other effect while hooked up and then perform the levitation.
just requires a little audience management. and a lot of practice to look natural and confortable.

well im a little down right now. i was trying to set up for the ring effect for the tarantula and i broke the thread... now the spool comes with 25 feet so im still ok. also the tarantula uses the same spools as the spider pen. so i can buy more anyways... now heres my problem either im doing it way wrong or the motor on this thing seems to be weak. i cannot get it to even lift a dollar.. nothing more than the weight of the wax it came with.. its almost as if the battery is almost dead... could this be since i just pulled it out of the box? maybe they sent me a dead battery idk. cause yigal on the dvd is lifting rings and dollars with no problem.. but with mine the dollar just hangs there and will not rise.. :( any help from those that are familiar with ITRs?

well i want to give it the benefit of the doubt.. the dvd yigal makes it soo graceful and well if this had just a little bit more pull then i'll really be in love with it. i realize that i probably am not doing everything right yet. and im not very good yet. but the over all concept is great to me. it fits well and is hidden well in my finger palm. its basically a real that fits inside a finger shell you finger palm with your middle finger.

ok i just went up to my local walgreens and picked up a new energizer batter and this thing works like a charm... i did the ring levitation from one hand to the other and even onto my little brothers finger.. the great thing is that you can even borrow a spectators ring, given that is a band ring and not rediculously heavy. my initial thoughts on this thing were great although i broke a bunch of the threat and got a dead battery with it... but after fixing the battery and setting up the thread again.. this thing works great. im actually very pleased.. i was gonna put pictures up of it tonight but thats not really gonna work out so i'll prolly have them up tomorrow. but overall, other than the dead batter and broken thread (most likely my own stupid fault) this thing is worth the money i paid for it. gosh im excited to use it. im anxious what your thoughts are. i will do a more thorough and in depth review as i am more comfortable with it but let me know any questions you may have on it.

i'll be sure to get pictures up as soon as i can. i think why i like it so much is the fact that it has virtually endless possibilities as to what you can do with it. its not just a 2 or 3 effect gimmick. the ring effect is my favorite however the simple little dollar/card raise trick is soo easy and, its all around great. delicate but great.

Really glad you got your battery sorted out! I was gonna reply as soon as you posted your problem but had to go out - i didn't even have time to log out lol.
If you still think that it should be fast, then there's something else you're doing. This device is meant to be fast, really fast when required.
Make sure that you're not slowing down the thread retraction with your fingers or hands. Because the friction can cause the retraction to be slower than normal.

Yeah i've seen 4ce's pics, they look great to me. I think it's a fantastic idea, and as long as you're good with audience management and control then you're good.
I've heard that you can adjust the device to suit you, e.g. cutting off the plastic to make it smaller, or applying make-up to the device.
However, applying make-up to change its colour is not necessary in my opinion, because to me the insides of everybody's fingers are more or less the same colour.
Question: The wax on the thread goes back into the reel after a performance right? How long does a ball of wax last?

But the thing is, as long as you're good at concealing things like that you're okay. Because what I think is that if someone thinks you're acting suspicious with that hand, they'll tend to casually take a closer look at that hand. When they do they'll see nothing but fingers lol.
That being said, don't be a fruitcake and act as if you're holding something. Casual movements will do.

I just got mine the other day and was pissed after it stop working after about three trys of learning to use it. I went to Walgreens and snagged up a 389 battery and now it works like a champ!
The handling is easy to get use to and I have huge hands which helps for hinding somethings so I can't speak for small hand peeps. The illusions seem to be endless and the video is put together well.
You should have seen the look on my wifes face when I made the ring drop down on her finger :)
I have had no problem with mine other than the battery it came with. Other than that I just have been figuring out what my weight limit is I can push to use this item but that has nothing to do with the item itself!

Ok I have played with my Tarantula for a couple of weeks now, and overall I like it, its ingenious and nearly undectectable. I have spun the ring from hand to hand, and no one has seen the device as of yet. You can trim the length and and expand the width and there is enough room between the mechanisim and the shell to insert padding for those thin fingers.
It feels comfortable to wear, and you soon forget its there and can concentrate on the effect. For me, its the overhead hookup that makes the ring effect, coupled with the device allowing undectectable control from your hand - subtle movements with your hand and head translate into some dramatic effects.
The balance of the motor is good - especicially with the dollar bill thus: Just dropping the dollar bill ( also works ok with a five pound note for our brit collegues) the motor has enough minimal resitance to give the impression of a bill floating to the ground, adding to the illusion of nothing being attached, so when you reel it in, its quite unexpected and a jaw dropper.
Not really done too much else with it, as I am currently fixing my biggest gripe with it, the reel itself. The thread became tangled at about 15 ft, and I had to attempt rethread which was ok with my thread, but the original thread is stronger. Hopefully when I figure out the correct thread, out of my different types the issue will be resolved. I dont really want to keep on buying spools, if I am going to have problems at $10.00 a shot.

03-21-2009, 03:20 AM
I wanted to say something about the falling problem someone mentioned. It only becomes a problem when you try using too much weight. Try out different things and see how much it holds you would be surprised! Also it shows in the video how to pick the length you want to work with and stop it there without it dropping more and that is as far at it drops! With different illusions this becomes very handy and opens the door to so many other ideas! Not to mention it helps prevent waste.

Calbrit, that's excellent feedback! I read all of it and it makes me wanna get it more (aint got it yet lol). But that's what i'm scared about - the problem you mentioned with tangling...
I do not want to ever get it tangled (although you might think it's inevitable), but i think if i use it correctly i can stop it from happening. So do you have any advice on how to stop it tangling, and if tangled, how easy/hard is it to retrieve the end of it again?
Thanks :D

lmaoatyou this item is awesome and if you work at it there is no tangle. At least for me the only reason it tried to get tangled was because I pulled out like 20ft to do an illusion for fun. As for it breaking that happens and how often depends on the person. If it break getting it ready is as easy as tieing a shoe. I think it took me 2 minutes and I have done this 3 times. I have been breaking it often as I have been pushing the amount of weight this thing holds. Hope this helps some. If you are thinking about getting one and are an eBayer look at my post I put up in this thread of a guy I bought off of in California they sell nothing but IT and ITR!

Some more feedback on the tangling - I don't think I explained myself very well - let me make amends.
I have no tangling problems actually using the unit per say. You let out enough to reach the floor from your waist, then tie it off as per the DVD. This gives you the control and the repeatabilty you need. Point of fact, I was shopping for rings for the effect at a local Mall, and did the ring spin twice in two differnet stores with the same length, no problem - just wanted to make clear there is ( or I havent found ) a tangling problem. IMHO I dont think you will be embarresed in a live setting. The tangling I was refering to was as you get further into the reel. To me it seemed I only got about 3 lengths out ( i.e 3 breaks and resets if that makes sense ) before the rest of the reel became useless. Now I think about it more, I must have only got about 9 ft out before it was inorperable.
Anyway, today I went shopping again, this time for "Wooley Nylon Thread". I cut off around 25ft ( which is what the manufactures of Tarantula claim is on the reel), laid it out on the floor, striped out one thread from the end and attached it to the reel, then placed the reel in the unit. I then used the unit to wind the thread onto the reel. The whole operation took me about 30 mins, which is a no brainer in terms of my time invested, as it looks like I have around 1000 yards of unstripped thread, a bit more ecomonical than $10.00 for a 25ft reel ! Which brings me on to my next asside - there obviously was not 25ft on the original reel, as when I would the new one on, the reel is much more full. The only reason I may buy a replacement reel, is so I have a ready to go backup just in case.
As for the question of how easy is it to get the thread out, I have to say not too bad - the usual blowing down the barrel seems to work 50% of the time, the rest of the time I have been able to fish it out with fingernails.
It is an expensive piece of kit, but I think its worth the money when you consider the engineering that has gone into it and the relatively limited market. If you are on a limited budget though and want to do some of the neat effects like the ring spinning then you can achieve similar results manually or with a cheap ITR.

Excellent! This more or less makes convinced that that problem with tangling isn't as bad as i thought it was. I agree with you making your own reel and everything, but the problem with me is that i honestly cba lol. I'd just buy another reel and it would solve any problems without the headache. I agree with the expense of the kit, and i also agree with you that it's worth it (by the sounds of it), but i believe with a lot of time, practice and patience that it can be mastered correctly.
Thanks again.

So it's been a few weeks and yes I am still on the same spool that came with it! If you tie it off like it shows in the video then you can do objects like credit cards, money, even a full piece of paper across a smooth surface. I am a school teacher where once in awhile I break out magic for the kids to see how I'm doing and see what reactions I get. One illusion I think is fun is using a kids powerade or gaterade cap. If you screw it off do a few things and then screw it back on it blows them away! Ping Pong ball is fun also!
This is a great little device I only wish it had more power to pull items! If you have one toss up some cool things you can do! If you don't have one get one!

I just keep it in the pocket until I am ready to use and slide the hand in and put it on! Just make sure your pocket is clean and nothing gets on the wax. As for durability I have dropped mine during practice many times trying dumb things and it's all good. Worst thing I have had to do it pop the battery back in place. yeah i get what u guys mean actually, my hair is kinda long for a guy nd the wax does stop in my hair, but what i do is sometimes i just bring my hand back up to my head and while keep pressing the retracting button so the wax and thread can come right back up whenever i hit the right poisition, but the thing that pisses me off the most is how my hair moves while the ring spins xD so i like to do this outdoors cuz it looks like a breeze is causing it
EDIT:
by the way, is it just me, or is the slit a real pain in the ass?
