This is Zenneth Kok from Hong Kong, I am sending you this mail on behalf of a friend of mine in China, we have no intention to ruin F.I.S.M. but please read and advise us what to do.
Dear fellow magicians,
I am Penny Wu from China, a policeman and a zealous magic hobbist. I am writing to ask all the magicians over the world to boycott 2009 F.I.S.M. and yes I am completely sane and I do have many solid reasons, please read the following and give us some advices and supports.
Start off, let me tell you a bit about my background.I have established a
magic forum www.magic8.cn and it's been running for 5 years by now, this is currently the biggest magic forum in China with over 50,000 registered members.
I have been promoting magic in China and inviting magicians to give lectures in China, for example : Dan and Dave, David Stone, Mirko and Lu Chen, just to name a few.It's always been my sincere wish that magic could be promoted and advanced in China in the most proper way.
Unfortunately, the exposure of magic secrets and the ways that they are being exposed are breaking my heart into pieces, as well as th hearts of members in my forum. Setting aside of the circulation of pirated instructional videos and magic props in China, there are more and more people uploading instructional magic videos onto public video sites,
the equivalents of Youtube in China, please have a look of the following URL:

and this is not yet the most balatent form of magic secrets exposure and copyright infringement!
A Chinese T.V. channel have boardcasted the content of an instructional magic dvd in their shows and they are also doing another T.V. show of getting masked magicians to expose the magic secrets of all forms! Secrets of many celebrity magician's tricks are being explained in this show, including but not limited to the routines performed by Criss Angel,Cyril Takayama, David Blaine and David Copperfield in their own shows, and now they are exposing secrets of fundamental sleights and utilities such as various palming methods of coins, double lift, classic force, thumb tip, multiplying balls...and I believe there are more to come...

All of the sincere magic hobbists in China are heart breaking, but there's very little that we can do to stop these exposures,because this is under the jurisdiction of Chinese Acrobats Association(C.A.A.),the official and governmental organization in China, in fact, C.A.A. is also the organizer of 2009 Beijing F.I.S.M.! However, despite many mails and emails were sent to C.A.A. requesting for stopping the exposures on T.V., unfortunately, we hear no reply from C.A.A., and no action was taken by C.A.A.
Is such an organization qualified for organizing F.I.S.M.? Is there a need
for magicians to join the 2009 F.I.S.M. if the organizer has no intention a
nd make no effort to protect magic secrets?
Again, on behalf of all the magic hobbists in China, I am urging all the ma
gicians in the world to boycott 2009 F.I.S.M. and give pressure to C.A.A. asking them to do something, otherwise, the entire magic industry in China will be destroyed!
