it uses a reel... a reel similar to one for raven reel or self tying laces...the key tag style...only made for a pro.

Well I don't know exactly how it is done, but if you look at his right hand you can see as he is pulling the hanky towards himself he lets go with everything except he is clipping something with his pinky and his palm. that's all I could see

there is nothing to it...the reel is on his right.. and attached to the end of the silk that he holds on his right hand...

all you do is pass the thread around the mike stand...so when you let go of the silk it jumps around the stand and back to the right hand.

if you watch you can see him pass the thread around.

Oh... thats what i thought too.... I have a cheaper pully...I think, if i can pull it off, i will try it in next years talent show.

just so you know...the reel i posted the link to, has a brake....you exetend the thread but it wont retract until you push the button...

a cheap reel wont work nearly as well...because there will always be tention on the thread...

you can also use the same gimmicked silk to do the disolving knot....where you tie a knot in the center of the silk and it unties itself.

the silk is not gimmicked, it just has the thread tied to one corner.
