Both are great effects, but one uses reel and one uses string. Here are what I think are the pros and cons.
Spun:
Pros:
-Uses money. Performing with money could cause people wanting to tip money.
-Uses string, no battery replacement etc.
-Bends a coin. Two supernatural effects for one.
(All pros I can think of for now)
Cons:
-Uses Money! Although you don't have to give away the quarter. Sometimes you do give away a quarter. If you perform about 100 effects (talking about 'if' someone performs 100 effects, I probably can't), that's already 25 bucks a night.
-Uses string! IMO and in my experience, holding your hand in the air while something is floating makes me think of string. All magicians or people who know a bit about magic including non-laypeople would probably think of the same thing. Laypeople might not.
(All cons I can think of for now)
-20+50 (if I get the boa). Seems expensive compared to the product below.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tarantula:
Pros:
-No string! A reel that's supposed to be the best reel in the market right now.
-Fluid motions makes it look like string is not used.
-Can be used for your imaginations and other applications
-Supernatural effects.
Cons:
-It's a IT reel and parts need to be replaced.
-The gimmick is in a risky position.
-I'm dark skinned so gimmick is even riskier
-I have a major fear of tarantula so opening the box is a challenge.
(all cons I could think for now)
Those are the pros and cons that concern me. Feedback please.

uhm first off.... i personally dont think spun is a good effect in any way. its no different from the hummingbird card, except one uses a quarter. also, the coin cant be examined before hand, unless u have one of those quantum benders to carry around with u... which i highly doubt.
the tarantula can accomplish the same exact effect! they both use invisible thread! the price varies quite a lot between spun and the tarantula... plus, hook ups r different, and one has a dvd, one doesnt. also, tarantula can accomplish more than spun, all u really need for spun is wax + IT. the bending part is really just 1 extra little thing.
yes i do agree with ur cons on the T, and believe me, there r much more to that especially if ure not used to handling IT and wax.
spun looks more like a do-5-times-and-get-over-it-pretty-quickly routine
EDIT: btw, using money doesnt really get u more tips, IMO, any well performed trick will get u tips, of course it still depends on the spectator.

you arent thinking very clear...it takes about 3 minutes to perform spun...100 times a night would be 300 minutes...thats five hours of the same trick with no break....truth is you might do it 10 times tops...so its less than 3 bucks..... not $25...and if you barrow the coin and switch it for the bent one it costs you nothing.
if my only choices are spun or trantula...then spun gets my vote....i dont like reels.
and what do you mean "no string"???? they both use the same invisible thread....

My bad, I'm just making a point that it's still expensive.

When I mean no string, I don't classify reels with string. IMO

just for fun i thought i'd touch on some pros and cons for these effects that no one has mentioned
tarantula....
cons
1. takes up valuable space in my pocket
2. to fragile for full time day to day performing.(if i were planing to us it as a regular part of my performing, then i would have to buy 2)
3. a continuing investment of money (trying to keep fresh batteries)(and it only comes with one spool of thread so you will need to order a backup spool)(thread and wax)
4. a continuing investment of time (stripping and re-spooling 25 feet of thread)
5. it's easy to use (every bad magician with 80 bucks to blow will be performing before they learn to use it properly)
spun ..........
pros
1. it's cheaper (i bought the dvd, and the only other money i will spend is for thread and wax)
2. it requires some real skill to perform and make it look good....(so fewer people do it.)
3. i take the thread and wax out of my wallet, set it up....and i can perform all night without breaking or tangling the thread, and at the end of the night, i just throw it away.
4. i barrow the quarter, switch it for a bent one...and after the performance, i bend the one i got at the last table...(so it's not like i'm giving away money)

the only thing i see that is wrong here is ur comparein a trick to a utility device....u cant really say one is better than the other cause ur comparein 2 differnet things....the poll should have been comparein invisible thread to tarantula....or thread vs reel
and all in all spun cost u nothin to perform if u perform it correctly....the only way it will cost u money is if ur usein ur own coins and giving them away wich is just stupid......thats like walkin up to a complete stranger and sayin "hey heres a quarter, bye".....u borrow a coin, switch it for the bent one as u get ur marker out ur pocket then have them sign the bent one......u take a quarter from them and give them a quarter back...there fore it cost u nothin
the tarantula is a nice device and u could probably even do spun with it, but i personally dont really like reels that much, i have one and i hardly use it...in fact i hardly use IT at all now....occasionally i'll use loops but thats about it
