I'm just guessing, it is like a glass box, they are just laying on a piece of glass, so you can see through it and it looks like they are levitating.

For the second one I think theres like medal rods attached to his pants and thats why the blanket is there to cover the rods.

The second one is just a commercial add/picture I don't think he actually makes people float (unless im mistaken). You can't judge anything until you see it happening (a video) not by photo. Most of the time it is done on stage and they are attached to a mechanism. You said how did they lift off the ground, you don't know they did! Where did you see them rise up? Its just a picture of them in the air.

Effect:(This is another method that is different). The magician calls a spectator up to the stage and ask her to lay down on the ground. The magician and his assistant pull a blanket over the spectator while the spectator is face up on the ground. The magician momentarily holds up the blanket and then puts it down over the woman. Slowly, the woman (at the magician's command) rises into the air.
Method:The spectator is really an assistant. When the magician is pulling the blanket up, the spectator turns on her belly. When the blanket is on top of the spectator, she does a push up with one leg up. When the blanket is being picked up, the assistant turns on her back to give the illusion that she was on her back the whole time. Have fun and enjoy!!! :) :)
