This is an interesting debate/discussion I believe.

Do you believe you should spend more money on things such as Just Passin Thru and other 'tricks', or do you believe that more money should be spent on DVD or book training.

I personally believe that the latter is the better. DVD/book training will come much more in handy. With DVDE training, you learn techniques, many of which can be used for many different tricks and, in an illusion profession, the creation of your own tricks. If your aim is to become a great illusionist, such as is mine, then you would benefit more from DVD training. IF it is to become a social butterfly and to become the life of the party, then get the tricks.

Any others care to discuss?

i say deffinatly learn sleight of hand tricks, gimmicks are ok if u know how to and can use them properly, i've seen so many people perform tricks like passing thru and kaos and think they can perform them well just cause they read the instructions. its the stupidest way to get into magic, i beleive magic is an artform not just somethin to do. and like any art form it must b learnt from start to finsih to b able to master all aspects of it. start with sleight of hand and then get into usein gimmicks not the other way around

i think you should learn from dvds and books because it involves more skill (most of the time) and then your clean at the end. however a couple of gimmicks didn't hamr anyone but i would avoid a full show with just gimmicks

I agree with magic being an art form. I call myself an artist because it is my specialized art form, much like writing is to an author.

I believe that a gimmicked trick takes away from the creativity and originality. Instead of magic coming from your own mind, it comes from the pocket and the wallet.

I belive that gimmick tricks are good, but ungimmicked tricks are more spectacular. By this I mean it is more impressive if you can do a trick on your own, instead of having the help of a gimmick. Yes I believe magic is an art. I love magic, I believe it is one of the best things ever.
